So, here's an idea to help make a better eve/dust link: Joint exploration!
So, basically, adding a new form of exploration for eve designed to include dust players.
The idea is, all these fights happen in space, ships are getting blown up and wrecks go everywhere. It would stand to reason that at least a few of those would end up crashing to the ground from orbit, like everything I try in Kerbel Space Program.
Now, as dust players currently have no good interface for this yet, an Eve player would fly up to a planet, deploy some probes of some sort and scan down a planet. Every so often, a result shows up for a shipwreck on the surface. Now, the player has an opportunity create a contract to deploy mercs to the surface to secure salvage from the wreck.
To keep it interesting, other players can deploy teams as well, there should be chances of rouge drones showing up (I hear you guys got those finished) and npc pirate corporations can occasionally create counter contracts.
Rewards should include standard salvage and data junk for the Eve player, and random equipment salvage and some cash for the dust players. The Eve player should be able to put up the money for the contract. There should also be a higher than normal rate of salvage for the Eve player to justify the expenses.
The size of the teams deployed should be 1 squad for frigate/destroyer sized wrecks, 2 for cruisers, 3 for bc's ,maybe 4 for bs, and I'm going to say that capitols should be figured out once the rest of this is sorted.
as far as the mechanics of the actual operation go, the Eve player will undock in a specially retro fitted destroyer/cruiser/hauler fitted with modules and space for clones and clone trooper gear, as well as a docking bay designed to launch and dock landing craft to drop troops and receive loot after the deployment.
Player goes to a planet, scans it down, finds a wreck. Player puts up a contract, for, say, 200k per dust trooper. Squad finds contract, accepts, and deploys. Ship launches the lander to the planet, carrying an mcc (maybe a mini version or something). as well as salvage vehicles and such for collecting materials.
The Dust players deploy, a short distance from the wreck, and move inside, and use specialized gear for finding salvageable parts and equipment as well as hacking into still active computer terminals to look for useful data (like ship blue prints). Once they have some salvage located, players can call for salvage vehicles to be dropped, allowing players to use them to collect the materials.
Once the junk is collected, players move the vehicles back to the dz and call for the vehicles to be evacced. This process can be repeated several times, depending on the volume of salvage, size of ship, destroyed salvagers, so on.
Rouge drones, hostile player teams and such can be deployed any time to create a fight. Deployed teams should have a limited supply of clones, due to the nature of the vessel being used to deploy them. Say, 10-20 clones for a smaller boat, 50 for the hauler. Deployment times should also be limited, to force the players to try to run salvage ops in the middle of a fire fight oif they have to in order to secure the salvage. Say, 10 minutes for a short op, 20 for a long one.
Eve side rewards should be largely in the form of things like salvage, equipment and components, the occasional skill book or blue print. Sort of like running the current archeology and hacking sites, but with higher reward potential, team work, more game integration, and without that annoying minigame. Also, Eve side players should be forced to supply MCC and salvage vehicles for this, at least some where down the line. As the site, potential profit, and equipment is on the line, Eve players should eventually be allowed to choose who the contract is available to. Also, the Eve player should have to supply the clones as well, maybe even buy them from Dust corps at some point (NPC's for now, but maybe some day)
Just an idea for making the two games more linked and more interesting.
Anyone have any ideas on how to make this work better?
